Student Freshers Week Tips

by Steve Burford

The Fresher's Fair: This celebration offers you some rest and respite from the jollity for a few hours. Be sure you don't miss it! They'll be some free food, drinks vouchers and other money saving offers.

It is at this event that you'll be given a bunch of discount vouchers for stuff like Subway, Dominos pizza and local clubs. You'll also be given the chance to join up with a club or society. Going to a club may not be for everyone but it is a great way to meet an additional circle of friends, get out and about and do something you haven't done before.

Many universities are fortunate enough to have clubs like extreme sports where you can do parachute jumps for around twenty English pounds. A majority of these clubs are a massively cheap way to get fit and get out and about and meet new people.

Make sure you get down to the freshers fair to check everything out whether you're the sporty type or not. Get ready. During freshers week you're going to have to sort a few things out, firstly: Your finance forms You'll really need to go and give in your forms to make sure you get all the right grants and loans. Make every effort to know when you have to go in or else you'll be financial turmoil.

Your Student Card: You'll either have to bring a photo or you'll have your photo taken. If you're having your photo taken then perhaps drink a little less the night before so you don't look like a homeless person on your student card for the next 3 years. Student Insurance: It's really worth acquiring student insurance, as it will protect you from fire, theft and sometimes loss. Students now have thousands of pounds worth of stuff with computers, laptops, games consoles, TVs, CDs, iPods, clothes and shoes.

Unfortunate fact: 1 in 4 students will become a victim of crime whilst at university. It starts from only a few pounds a month to insure, it's worth covering that risk.

Registering with a Doctor: Ensure you go and get this sorted. It is more or less guaranteed that you'll have to go to a doctor at some point during your time at university. Getting all your Course Details This is important! Be certain you turn up to all lectures and seminars. You won't make a good impression on your tutors by not turning up. You'll have to get timetables and may even have to choose possibilities for the year ahead.
